One Year Old

William is now one year old. I can hardly believe that a year has already passed. It seems like yesterday I was visiting my ob wondering what my new baby would look like. I will admit that the first year was hard and seemed difficult at times, but even in the hardest of times..we feel so blessed and thrilled to have him in our lives.

William is really enjoying solid foods. Right now his favorite foods are strawberries, bananas, wheat toast, crackers, spaghetti, peanut butter, and peas. Oh, and Apples. Funny, because if anyone is eating an apple around William or if you are in the produce section in the grocery store..beware! An apple will be snatched and if it cannot be snatched you may witness a temper tantrum.

It took some time but he started really drinking whole milk about a week ago and seems to really like it now. He is still nursing twice a day and I am hoping to have him weaned in a few weeks. He never had formula, took a bottle, or a pacifier. Ending breastfeeding will be bittersweet.

He started sleeping through the night the week of Christmas at over 11 months old. It's hard to believe that I went that long without sleep and hard to believe how fast I recovered. 2 weeks of 8 hours of sleep did a lot for my energy level and mood. Most nights he is asleep by 7:45 a.m. and up by 6:30 a.m. There are times when he still wakes because of teething or illness..but mostly we are getting the sleep that we need. Naps are irregular and most of the time you can only bank on one nap a day, and it's always the morning one... the afternoon nap rarely exists.

He still has only 8 teeth. I say only because he has had 8 since he was 7 months old. Although, I am pretty sure a new one will be arriving soon based on all the drool we've witnessed lately.

He's still crawling more than walking, but seems to be almost there. He loves to read books, play with his farm, cars, and trucks, and loves Mickey Mouse. He hums the song and dances whenever he sees Mickey..so cute!

He has a few words down pat. Mama, Dada, car, uh-oh, ball, cracker, and truck. He's just starting kissing us when we ask for a kiss. So sweet, and recently he has been climbing in my lap for a cuddle through out the day.

Every day I wake up happy to take care of you baby boy. You are the light of my day and bring an immense amount of joy to my life!
